Name-Based Case Searches
Name searching works best when you match the tool's format. The Washington Courts Person Search asks for a first and last name. A middle name is optional. Odyssey Smart Search takes the opposite approach, reading entries in Last, First Middle order. Try the most specific version you know. Then confirm court, file date, caption, and role before opening any result.
- Select the correct Superior or District/Municipal court level.
- Enter required first and last names; add a middle name when known.
- Narrow by Pend Oreille court, case type, status, or filing dates.
- Compare the caption and party role, not just the name.
- Open Events, Hearings, and Disposition Events for the matching file.
| Field | System | Use |
|---|---|---|
| First and last | Person Search | Required name fields |
| Middle name | Person Search | Optional match refinement |
| Party or business | Odyssey | Superior Smart Search |
| File date and status | Odyssey | Reduce broad results |

These fields locate possible cases. They do not certify identity or the record.
Three Pend Oreille Docket Search Rhythms
Washington Courts gives the public three tools, and each answers a different question. The free statewide Name and Case Search supplies reference data. It refreshes about every 24 hours. Find My Court Date pulls the live District and municipal calendar. Odyssey carries current Superior Court case information for participating counties. Pend Oreille is one of them. It offers both anonymous and authorized access.
| Tool | Best use | Timing and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Name and Case Search | Statewide case index across court levels | About 24-hour refresh; reference only |
| Find My Court Date | Next District or municipal setting | Real-time calendar search |
| Odyssey | Superior case and hearing detail | Anonymous users cannot access restricted content |
Match the tool to your question. A next hearing points to the calendar tool, while a full Superior event history calls for Odyssey. The clerk stays the official source either way.
Case Number Searches
An exact number is usually the cleanest route into a Pend Oreille County docket search. The traditional Superior format combines the filing year, a type digit, a sequence, and a check digit. Type 1 marks a criminal case; type 2 marks civil. In Odyssey counties a related number may appear with the county code at the end. Pend Oreille is county 26.
District and municipal numbers follow no shared pattern. Letters, numbers, dashes, and other characters can all appear. Copy the punctuation exactly as your notice shows it. Then choose the correct court level rather than dressing up a limited-jurisdiction number to resemble a Superior one.
- Case number
- The court-assigned identifier for one file.
- Case type
- A system category such as criminal, civil, domestic, or probate.
- Cross-reference
- Another identifier linked to a case in Odyssey.
- Caption
- The short case title showing named parties or roles.
Pend Oreille Odyssey Docket Search
Odyssey Portal lists Pend Oreille Superior Court. Its two main features are Smart Search and Search Hearings. Start anonymous. Enter a party or case number, then tighten things with advanced filters for county location, business, attorney, bar number, judicial officer, case type, case status, file-date range, or cross-reference.
Two tricks widen a stubborn search. A wildcard uses an asterisk for unknown characters, and Soundex matches a surname by sound. Both can inflate the result set. Pair them with a Pend Oreille location plus a date or type filter. The official guide warns that a query stops at 200 results. When it does, add a first name, court, case category, filing period, or status before concluding the case is missing.
Once a file opens, the tabs are yours. Move among Case Information, Party, Disposition Events, Events or Register of Actions, and Hearings. Registering does not unlock sealed or restricted cases.
Case Search Results Explained
Read a Pend Oreille County case search result field by field. The statewide index can be incomplete or wrong. Free-form docket text may be left out because it can carry sensitive information, and document links can be missing too.
| Identity | Case number, court, filing date, type, and caption. |
|---|---|
| People | Party roles, attorneys, and judicial officer when displayed. |
| Events | Chronological filings, notices, and order entries. |
| Hearings | Date, time, type, status, location, and officer where shown. |
| Disposition | Outcome or status resolution, not the complete facts. |
| Documents | Links only when public and authorized; many records require a clerk request. |
A cause or charge is not an outcome. A docket event is not the filed document. Compare the newest entries, then get the signed order or a certified copy from the proper court.
Pend Oreille Municipal Docket Searches
Cusick, Ione, Metaline, Metaline Falls, and Newport all appear as municipal courts on the Washington JIS court list. Each one contracts with Pend Oreille District Court. That arrangement sets a local trap. The city organization may be the correct court choice on a search screen, yet District Court runs the counter, the phone, the records, and day-to-day service.
For a city case, search that specific municipal organization through statewide Case Search or Find My Court Date. The result may be missing or unclear. Call Pend Oreille District Court at 509-447-4110 or 800-359-1506. A city-labeled limited-jurisdiction request should not go to the County Clerk, whose files center on Superior Court.
Routing rule: Keep the municipal court label from the citation, then use District Court for the official local service channel.
Two Ways to Search: County and State
Statewide systems locate case information; county offices deliver the file itself. No single Pend Oreille County portal replaces both the Superior Clerk and District Court. The court name on your search result tells you which office to call.
| Need | Online route | Official follow-up |
|---|---|---|
| Superior index | State Case Search or Odyssey | County Clerk, 509-447-2435 |
| District/municipal index | State Case Search | District Court |
| Next limited-jurisdiction date | Find My Court Date | District Court confirmation |
| Filed document or certification | Use index to identify it | Correct clerk or court counter |
The statewide case-search interface exposes court-level and case-type controls:
Selecting court level before case type prevents many false starts.
Pend Oreille JIS-Link Docket Search
JIS-Link is a paid, display-only route into Washington case information. It charges $0.145 per transaction with a $13 minimum. Its sections can include BASIC, ATTORNEY, NAMES, CALENDAR, CHARGE, DOCKET, SENTENCE, STATUS, and SUMMARY.
What it never provides is the actual document. Someone who needs the wording of a Pend Oreille County order has a two-step route. Identify the event here. Then ask the County Clerk or District Court for the filed record. The official interface and fee notice make that boundary visible:
Paid access can improve display access, but it is not certification or document delivery.
Pre-1996 Pend Oreille Docket Searches
The County Clerk holds computer images of Superior documents back to January 1, 1996. Anything older may sit on microfiche or on a courthouse computer. So an empty document link proves nothing about whether a file exists.
Give the clerk the party name and the court. Add an approximate year. Include any known case number and the filing you want. District and municipal cases belong to District Court instead. When a database search stops short, the clerk's counter, phone routing, mailed requests, and copy forms are the fallback channels.
Which Cases Stay Restricted
Washington GR 31 starts from the idea that court records are open. But it also allows limits set by statute, court rule, court order, and case law. So some filings never show up in a Pend Oreille County docket search. Juvenile offender records, for one, stay off the public statewide website. Adoption, dependency, paternity, mental-health, sealed, and protected family files may be missing or thin. GR 22 spells out special access rules for family and guardianship cases. GR 15 covers sealing and redaction.
No result: Recheck court level, venue, spelling, number, date range, record age, and case type before considering a restriction.
Even a sealed Pend Oreille County case docket can leave behind an index clue, though the case file itself stays closed. Anonymous Odyssey access does not get around that restriction. If you have a lawful basis to see the contents, the court can walk you through the request process, and only the court of record can certify what the outcome is.
